How Often Should I Update My Will?

Although your Will not something you should be revising on a weekly basis, you can’t just “set and forget” your estate plan forever.  Also, it’s important to avoid running up a large bill by submitting new additions to your estate plan to your attorney every time you think of a new end-of-life consideration.

Here are some tips to make the most of your estate planning:

Keep Notes
Take notes and make sure to include major life changes to your list to make your adjustments at once. Note the date of major life events such as marriages, deaths, births, etc.

Discuss with your Family or Partner
Sometimes a new set of eyes can help you realize something you may have missed.  If you’re comfortable share your ideas with a family member, friend or partner.

Talk to your Lawyer
Your lawyer will have the best recommendations when it comes to adjustments and revisiting your Will.
